Deep in Russia - 1996 visit on Ivanovo Severny Airbase for the mighty Antonov AN-22
Actually and since too many years already I whould not recommand a visit in this country. But back in the millenium years I've visited regularly, my last visit was 1998.
Anyway - since Ukrainian Air Defence / Air Force is playing turkey shoot at russian warplanes like Su-34/35 and the russian AWACS called A-50 Mainstay those days, a name of an air base reappeared in the media I was visiting back in 1996 - IVANOVO SEVERNY. There should be the main base of those A-50 and discussions are going on about the still airworthy aircrafts.

No A-50 seen on my visit in 1996, but already the arrival was spectacular - in Il-18D RA-75496 operated by 223 LO out of Chkalovski !
Main target where the famous Antonov AN-22 COCK - some already broken up but most of them just staying there and awaiting there faith.
The crews started one of those beast for some nice photos in rolling - impressive is too little as word to describe
Surprise - the only known COCK in camouflage. Still active in 2023, but received standard (Aeroflot) colors.
Unfortunally our visit was not including the many, many lines of Il-76 transport aircrafts, we where lucky though with those three in the colors of different eras.
I hope you enjoyed the small visit of the past where we all believed that Russia is no thread anymore. We all underestimated the butcher named Putler (Copyright Tom Cooper) and some politicians still are friends with him - so we, the people, have to pay the price.

No Airspirit24 Airshow in Emmen due Budget-cuts - or not ?
Big discussions now in Switzerland - especially on Emmen Air Base .... The Swiss Armed Forces cancelled the big Airshow of this summer in Emmen and the Armed Forces day in 2025 in Bure.

Armee verzichtet auf die Grossanlässe «AirSpirit 24» und «DEFENSE 25»
Bern, 26.01.2024 - Aufgrund der angespannten finanziellen Situation verzichtet die Armee auf die für 2024 und 2025 geplanten Grossanlässe sowie weitere Veranstaltungen. Ende August dieses Jahres hätte sich auf dem Militärflugplatz Emmen mit «AirSpirit 24» die Luftwaffe präsentieren sollen, 2025 am Anlass «DEFENSE 25» die Bodentruppen.
Öffentlichkeitsanlässe sind für die Armee von grosser Bedeutung, um Vertrauen und Reputation aufzubauen. Da sie heute vor allem auf Waffenplätzen und somit in der Regel fernab von der Bevölkerung für ihre Einsätze trainiert, ist die Sichtbarkeit der Truppen eingeschränkt. Aufgrund der angespannten finanziellen Situation verzichtet die Armee nun auf einen wesentlichen Teil der geplanten Öffenlichkeitsanlässe.
Der Verzicht betrifft 2024 unter anderem den Anlass «AirSpirit 24», der Ende August in Emmen der interessierten Öffentlichkeit Gelegenheit bieten sollte, sich ein Bild vor allem über die Leistungsfähigkeit der Luftwaffe zu machen. Erwartet worden wären bis zu 80'000 Besucherinnen und Besucher. 2025 war unter anderem ein Anlass mit dem Namen «DEFENSE 25» in Bière vorgesehen, an welchem sich die Bodentruppen hätten präsentieren sollen. Zudem verzichtet die Armee in den beiden kommenden Jahren auch auf die Organisation einer Reihe weiterer urspünglich geplanter Veranstaltungen.

No Axalp Live Firing Demonstration in 2024 and 2025
Swiss Air Force has cancelled already the very popular Axalp Airshows for 2024 and 2025.
It's not like Swiss Armed Forces have an very restricted budget, but it looks that political and military leaders made multiple commands on new gear without looking on the financial part. Different commands have now to be paid in multiple parts and 2-3 years later than expected.

Joint Training Exercise with the U.S. Air Force above Switzerland
Swiss Air Force to train with U.S. Air Force in Switzerland
Bern, 18.09.2023 - The Swiss Air Force and the U.S. Air Force will conduct a joint training exercise in Swiss airspace from 18–21 September 2023. The training is part of Switzerland's efforts to strengthen its defence capabilities through international cooperation.
From 18–21 September, several training modules will take place in Swiss airspace. Swiss Air Force Squadrons 17 and 18, and the 510th Fighter Squadron of the U.S. Air Force will be taking part in the exercise. The former will be taking off from Payerne Air Base in Vaud, Switzerland, the latter from Aviano Air Base in Italy. The purpose of the Swiss-American training exercise is to jointly test the planning, execution and debriefing of air defence exercises, and discuss experiences. It is based on a bilateral agreement on military training, education and exercises from April 2020.
Strengthening defence capabilities through international cooperation
Two Swiss F/A-18 fighter aircraft and two F-16 fighter aircraft of the U.S. Air Force will be taking part in the exercise. The joint training builds on a long history of cooperation between the two air forces in training and education. It is in line with the Federal Council's plans to strengthen Swiss defence capabilities through international cooperation, as stated in the supplementary report to the September 2022 Security Policy Report.

Patrouille Suisse flies again
After the accident with 2 F-5 Tiger last month, the Display Team returns to normal flight.
Patrouille Suisse zurück im normalen Flugbetrieb
Bern, 11.07.2023 - Die Patrouille Suisse nimmt ihren normalen Flugbetrieb wieder auf. Zwei Trainingseinheiten konnten erfolgreich durchgeführt werden. Der Überflug der Kunstflugstaffel am 14. Juli 2023 am Basel Tattoo findet statt.
Nach dem Zwischenfall bei einem Training am 15. Juni 2023 im Raum Baar/Zug hat die Patrouille Suisse ihren Flugbetrieb schrittweise wieder aufgenommen. Gestern konnte die Kunstflugstaffel zwei Trainingseinheiten im Raum Freiburg erfolgreich durchführen. Damit kehrt die Patrouille Suisse in ihren normalen Flugbetrieb zurück. Das Display Control Committee, das zuständige Kontrollorgan der Luftwaffe, hat dazu das Einverständnis erteilt.
Der nächste Auftritt der Patrouille Suisse ist der Überflug am 14. Juli 2023 am Basel Tattoo.
Am 15. Juni 2023 hatten sich zwei Flugzeuge der Patrouille Suisse des Typs F-5 Tiger bei einem Training im Raum Baar/Zug touchiert. Die Ermittlungen der Militärjustiz sind nach wie vor im Gange. Fragen zum Verlauf sowie zu Erkenntnissen aus den Ermittlungen sind an die Militärjustiz/das Oberauditorat zu richten.

Patrouille Suisse - two Tiger F-5 touched during training flight
One Tiger has lost the nose, the other has damaged parts on the other end of the aircraft. Both aircrafts safely landed in Emmen.

Bern, 15.06.2023 - Heute Vormittag haben sich zwei Flugzeuge des Typs F-5 Tiger bei einem Training der Patrouille Suisse im Raum Baar/Zug touchiert. Sämtliche Flugzeuge konnten anschliessend sicher landen und die Piloten blieben unverletzt. Die Militärjustiz hat die Untersuchungen aufgenommen.
Beim Training für das Display am Eidgenössischen Jodlerfest in Zug am kommenden Wochenende touchierten sich zwei Flugzeuge des Typs F-5 Tiger in der Luft.
Bei einem F-5 Tiger ist die Flugzeugnase abgebrochen und an die Fassade eines Hauses geprallt. Beim Aufprall zersprangen auch die Scheiben des Hauses und durch die Glassplitter wurde eine Person leicht verletzt. Bei der Touchierung der beiden Flugzeuge wurde der Bremsschirm des einen Flugzeuges ausgelöst und ist ebenfalls auf den Boden gefallen.
Alle sechs am Displaytraining involvierten Flugzeuge F-5 Tiger konnten in Emmen landen. Die Piloten bleiben unverletzt.
Die Militärjustiz hat die Untersuchungen aufgenommen.
Die Luftwaffe hat entschieden, den Flugbetrieb der Patrouille Suisse zu sistieren. Somit findet die geplante Flugvorführung am Jodlerfest in Zug am Wochenende nicht statt.
