New Jet for the LTDB (Lufttransportdienst des Bundes)

The Swiss Air Force announced today that they are in contact with REGA (Swiss Air Ambulance) to buy two CL604 Canadair Jets for future use in the Swiss Air Force. With maintenance costs of 2-3 millions CHF arriving for the Beech 1900D T-729 in the end of 2018, this aircraft should be sold.

VBS verhandelt über Kauf zweier Rega-Flugzeuge

Bern, 22.05.2017 - Der Bundesrat wurde an der Sitzung vom 17. Mai 2017 vom Chef VBS über die Verhandlungen zur Beschaffung zweier Flugzeuge der Schweizerischen Rettungsflugwacht Rega informiert. Die beiden gebrauchten Flugzeuge des Typs Bombardier CL-604 sollen künftig das Flugzeug Beech 1900D des Lufttransportdienst des Bundes ablösen. Das VBS will den Kauf mit der Armeebotschaft 2018 mit einem Rüstungskredit von 13 Mio. Franken beantragen.

Beim Bund und insbesondere bei der Armee besteht ein grosser Bedarf für Lufttransportkapazitäten. Ende 2018 müssten in das Flugzeug Beech 1900D des Lufttransportdienst des Bundes (LTDB) rund 2 bis 3 Mio. Franken in die Modernisierung von Avionik und Kabine investiert werden. Durch den Kauf der beiden gebrauchten Flugzeuge der Rega kann auf diese Werterhaltung verzichtet und das  Flugzeug verkauft werden.

Mit den beiden Flugzeugen könnten künftig Rückführungen und medizinische Evakuierungen (MedEvac) von Schweizer Bürgern zeitnah erbracht und  humanitäre Hilfsaktionen (HUMRO), sowie das Katastrophenhilfekorps unterstützt werden. Transporte für Detachemente, Ausbildungsmodule im Ausland und Einsätze könnten selbstständig durchgeführt werden. Die beiden Maschinen könnten zudem auch für Rückschaffungen zu Gunsten des Staatsekretariates für Migration (SEM) zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Dadurch würde auf kostspielige Mieten von Flugzeugen verzichtet werden können.

Die Rega verkauft die Flugzeuge inklusive der medizinischen Einrichtung für Transporte von erkrankten oder verletzten Personen. Somit wären auch Patiententransporte zum Eigenbedarf des Bundes oder für subsidiäre Einsätze mit Unterstützung der Rega oder anderen Anbietern bei medizinischen Notfällen von Schweizer Bürgern im Ausland möglich.

Bei einem Ausfall oder einer normalen Wartung eines LTDB-Flugzeuges kann zudem auf eine teure Miete von Ersatzmaschinen verzichtet werden. Zusätzlich könnten bis zum Erreichen der Flugstunden-Lebensdauerlimite der CL-604 (voraussichtlich 2031) flexiblere, effizientere und stabilere Einsatzformen in einem erweiterten Einsatzradius wahrgenommen werden.

Das VBS will den Kauf der Flugzeuge in der Armeebotschaft 2018 mit einem Rüstungskredit von 13 Mio. Franken beantragen. Schlussendlich entscheidet das Parlament, ob die Flugzeuge angeschafft werden.

Der Lufttransportdienst des Bundes führt Flüge zu Gunsten der eidgenössischen Departemente durch. Weiter werden militärische Einsätze, zum Beispiel zu Gunsten der Kontingente für friedensfördernde Operationen von swissint und der Luftwaffe im Balkan, sowie Vermessungsflüge zu Gunsten von swisstopo ausgeführt. Der LTDB betreibt eine gemischte Flotte aus Businessjets, Propellerflugzeugen und Helikoptern.

SEDUNUM - le adieu de l'EscAv6 à Sion

Yes, another squadron is officially disbanded now. This time it was the french part of Switzerland's Escadrille d'Aviation 6 with the slogan "Jusq'au bout" (untill the end). F-5E Tiger J-3033 received an special tail with the famous duck and an badge on the nose. Unfortunally the color of the tail had already some damaged parts at the end of the repetition course, so here you can see maybe the last time the complete work.

SEDUNUM was an dislocation exercise to Sion airfield for three days. One day each for installation and deinstallation and one day flight activity. Maybe you remember REVITA exercise in 2014 (Buochs) - but with much better weather this time 🌞

Sedunum is the romain name used for Sion. Some history lesson from wikipedia:

Celtic and Roman town

At the end of the first century BC, Sion was the capital of the Seduni, one of the four Celtic tribes of the Valais Julius Caesar mentions them as Nantuates Sedunos Veragrosque. They were conquered by the Romans in the second decade BC. By 8-7 BC, Emperor Augustus praised the tribe (civitas) of the Seduni with an inscription. The town-hall is said to contain several Roman inscriptions, one of which found at Sion commemorates the Roman presence: Civitas Sedunorum Patrono. Under the Romans it was known as Sedunum.

The Roman settlement stretched mainly from what is now St. Theodul, between the Sionne and to the west side of the hill, Valeria. Under the church, a large bath complex was discovered and partially excavated. Near La Sitterie, Sous-le-Scex and in the upper part of the Avenue du Petit Chasseur, portions of several villae suburbana were found. In the first Century AD, the Claudii Vallensium Forum, in what is now Martigny, became the capital of the civitas Vallensium. Sedunum lost political importance, but still remained the home of many notable families. Grave stelae attest to the presence of duumviri (magistrates of the civitas), of flamines (priests of the imperial cult), a Roman knight and a former consuls in the town. In the 4th Century praesides (provincial governors) are mentioned living in Sedunum, including a man named Pontius Asclepiodotus, who rebuilt an imperial building and, according to an inscription, converted to Christianity in 377.

The exercise lasted from May 15th 'till 17th and the repetition course finished May 18th in Payerne.

 

Nostalgieflugtag 2017, Meiringen

Like every year, Haslital tourism organizes (together with the base) an event for oldtimers on the military airfield of Meiringen. This year a huge amount of little airplanes came too, ILS Sternflug was there.

With incredible nice weather we saw many unusual aircrafts on this base normally used by our fighter jets !

New Schedule Swiss Air Force Displays 2017

Yesterday May 10th, the Swiss Air Force published a new version of the events they will attend. Some important changes can be noticed, La Ferte Alais Display of the Hornet is cancelled for example 😪
