Special photo opportunities in Meiringen

I think 'till 2011 it was aloud to take pictures of Hornets in front of the mountain caverns, from there was my last series taken anyway. Then it became forbidden due the new regulations with the Hornet upgrades.

Now it was time to try again - with official permission and as a small group due an special basevisit.

Two Hornets with running engines, preflight checks with Hook down

Without the mechanics and all the flight activity is not possible

Some other special, but not too special if you know me, positions on that day ;)

The Season 2017/18 has begun on october 1st and will end in march. Please respect the rules, no flash (interfer with Night vision goggles) and stay away of the runway/taxyway - thank you ;)

I tried some high iso with 1/80s - looking dark, but interesting. And not pictures you see everywhere of course ;)

Federal Administrative Courte (FAC) rejects opponents of Meiringen Base

Cows, mountain coats, ibex and other animals had absolutely no problems with departing jets in Meiringen. Some Hotels in Brienz and the big complex in Giessbach thinks different and uses courts to fight against the airfield.
Once more they had lost, this time at the Federal Administrative Courte (FAC) on September 15th, 2017.

The oppenents criticised the noise pollution and the method of determing it. All aspects are rejected by the FAC, now the opponents will take supreme court.

Binational Air Defence with Austria

Switzerland wants to sign a contract with Austria for a binational Air Defence capacity. The cooperation will include border crossing with fighter jets and the permission to escort civil aircrafts to an airfield. Switzerland has already signed such agreements with France, Germany (limited) and Italy.
Until now, Switzerland and Austria cooperates only with the radarpicture - no bordercrossing aloud. With the new agreement, both nations will win important minutes in air policy and security.
Swiss Defence Mininster Guy Parmelin will sign the contract with his Austrian counterpart, Hans Peter Doskozil on September, 28th in Salzburg.

French Air Force Rafale on a Air Policy Mission above Switzerland

Swiss Air Force's Falcon 900EX (T-785) was forced to land in Payerne by an Rafale C of Armée de l'Air today. Coming from french airspace, the Rafale used this exercise in connection with the binational CBA (Cross Border Area). Swiss fighters can intercept and escort airliners to french airfields too. Switzerland has contracts with Germany (limited), Italy and France for this kind of use of those CBA's.

France uses the bases of Lorient/ Lann Bihoué (Navy), Mont-de-Marsan (BA118), Orange (BA115) and St. Dizier (BA113) for the PO (permanence opérationnelle, QRA).

This morning another rarity flew above Switzerland - German Navy's Dornier Do-228-212LM 57+04 (cn 8214/0214) as GNY4785 👍

homepage: http://www.breitlingsionairshow.com/
date: 15 / 16 / 17 September 2017
timetable of each day: https://breitlingsionairshow.com/aircrew/program/

After the arrival of the swiss teams (Patrouille Suisse and PC-7 Team) on September 11th, yesterday and today are other guests already arrived and some display trainings where also made.

Some shots before the planned heavy rain starting tomorrow 💧

Highlight of today was for sure the arrival of Breitling's own DC-3 HB-IRJ after its world tour the last half year, meaning 45'000 km's in 28 countries. Famous Italian aerobatic team FRECCE TRICOLORI flew in formation with this Beauty just before the landing.
Unfortunally, I or the Tower or the Frecce or the pilots of the DC-3 have different meanings of the clearance of an LOW PASS ....
