Buochs - 14 years after the last Mirage Repetition Course

Yeah, time's running fast ... in 1999 we've seen Mirage IIIS leaving the base and in 2003 the last Mirage IIIRS and DS aircrafts.

But Buochs is not dead, Pilatus Aircraft Ltd and many more are using the field for there products. Here a little peek in daily activities 2017 - not bad, eyyyy ? ๐Ÿ˜ป

Pilatus PC-12 is a real topseller, with over 1720 examples produced already

Pilatus PC-7 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force received a Cockpit Upgrade for modern fighter cockpits like F-16 and F-35 - a little ceremony was held after the first aircraft (L-01) finished the testflights.

Ireland sent Pilot for a brand new PC-9M aircraft ready for delivery - the 269. Planning was to buy and refurbish an former Mexican Air Force aircraft, Ireland ordered a single new one instead. And some external fuel tanks.

French Air Force finally decided for 21st century training aircraft PC-21 ! Here No3 709-FE on an engine run - France ordered 16 aircraft for pilot school in Cazaux.

Jordan Air Force is the newest user of the Pilatus PC-21 in the Arab World.

And with the first Pilatus Jet, the PC-24, the future is looking great too !

Austria decides to cancel Eurofighter Typhoon

Not too big a surprise, but with an incredible hard decision - Austria grounds its Eurofighter fleet acquired only 2007-2009 !

The history of the new fighter jet in Austria was never an beloved one. Political decisions made more problems then expected and in case of modern airfighters fresh from productionline the Bundesheer received older models already used by the German Luftwaffe.Another history where the first cancelled, then for much money acquired external fuel tanks. Extremly high prices for regular exchange pieces where another part of an never ending story coming now to an end ... next votations are already on october'17 !

Beginning from 2020 on Austria wants a single aircraft fleet of 18 modern Fighters (15 single-, 3 doubleseaters), all Eurofighters will be wfu 'till 2023. If there would be sold or scrapped is not decided yet.

AIRPOWER 2000 - Zeltweg (A)

From time to time I'm opening some parts of my quite impressive archive to the world - especially to show those new guys out there why it is becoming difficult to see me on each aviatic event nowadays ...

The airfield Zeltweg (-Hinterstoisser) LOXZ is situated near Graz in Styria, southeastern part of Austria. Beginning in 1997, each couple of years you can find here one of the best airshows in mainland europe called AIRPOWER. Organisation is fabulous, background fantastic and the people nice - plus the impressive lineup is holding each year some fantastic aircrafts !

Back in 2000, the LOG was very impressive (here only the static):

a short history of this website

All began on March 24th in 1998 withhin the Cape Canaveral-Section of geocities.com ! Coded by myself on HTML I tried to use as less space then possible to safe bandwith and for good results on the two main browsers Netscape and Explorer.

July 2001 saw an massive modernisation of the look and included the actual flight plannings and other news of the Swiss Air Force. Some news like the closing of the base Alpnach in 2007 seen here had not survived further political decisions but seen at all my homepage was number one in Google for actual news these years.

Beginning September 9th, 2001 - after visiting Hopsten Open Day in northern Germany - I've also found the biggest aviation forum in german language, the flugzeugforum.de. More and more time I used there for the upbuilding of the sections about the Swiss Air Force and the time shedule for Events and Airshows worldwide, the status as Mod facilities the things. And with the french language FLIR and Aviapic Forums we had a very good exchange of information in the french and german part of Switzerland the following years.

January 5th, 2010 saw the introduction of my new web presence, this time published as blog. Hosted by flightglobal, this history ended with the shutdown of this service. The Summary of closed and missed web services had quite some impacts on myself - missing my suisse.org-email adress, the fly.to-linkservice, Netscape Browser, Yahoo groups and many more. But Grimmi's site survives and will going on further - and it's presence can be watched on the waybackmachine ๐Ÿ™Œ

Breitling's Super Constellation HB-RSC is not flying in 2017

(picture in 1200px)
Due maintenance problems (especially with the 24 wing flap link rods) and an fire damaging gears and hydraulic, the famous Bird of the Super Constellation Flyers Association (SCFA) has to cancel all planned flights this year.
The Association whould be happy for some financial help - please share this info.

.....................................................................................................................................

Vielen Dank fรผr Ihre ideelle und finanzielle Unterstรผtzung!

New Jet for the LTDB (Lufttransportdienst des Bundes)

The Swiss Air Force announced today that they are in contact with REGA (Swiss Air Ambulance) to buy two CL604 Canadair Jets for future use in the Swiss Air Force. With maintenance costs of 2-3 millions CHF arriving for the Beech 1900D T-729 in the end of 2018, this aircraft should be sold.

VBS verhandelt รผber Kauf zweier Rega-Flugzeuge

Sion

Yes, another squadron is officially disbanded now. This time it was the french part of Switzerland's Escadrille d'Aviation 6 with the slogan "Jusq'au bout" (untill the end). F-5E Tiger J-3033 received an special tail with the famous duck and an badge on the nose. Unfortunally the color of the tail had already some damaged parts at the end of the repetition course, so here you can see maybe the last time the complete work.

SEDUNUM was an dislocation exercise to Sion airfield for three days. One day each for installation and deinstallation and one day flight activity. Maybe you remember REVITA exercise in 2014 (Buochs) - but with much better weather this time ๐ŸŒž

Sedunum is the romain name used for Sion. Some history lesson from wikipedia:

Celtic and Roman town

At the end of the first century BC, Sion was the capital of the Seduni, one of the four Celtic tribes of the Valais Julius Caesar mentions them as Nantuates Sedunos Veragrosque. They were conquered by the Romans in the second decade BC. By 8-7 BC, Emperor Augustus praised the tribe (civitas) of the Seduni with an inscription. The town-hall is said to contain several Roman inscriptions, one of which found at Sion commemorates the Roman presence: Civitas Sedunorum Patrono. Under the Romans it was known as Sedunum.

The Roman settlement stretched mainly from what is now St. Theodul, between the Sionne and to the west side of the hill, Valeria. Under the church, a large bath complex was discovered and partially excavated. Near La Sitterie, Sous-le-Scex and in the upper part of the Avenue du Petit Chasseur, portions of several villae suburbana were found. In the first Century AD, the Claudii Vallensium Forum, in what is now Martigny, became the capital of the civitas Vallensium. Sedunum lost political importance, but still remained the home of many notable families. Grave stelae attest to the presence of duumviri (magistrates of the civitas), of flamines (priests of the imperial cult), a Roman knight and a former consuls in the town. In the 4th Century praesides (provincial governors) are mentioned living in Sedunum, including a man named Pontius Asclepiodotus, who rebuilt an imperial building and, according to an inscription, converted to Christianity in 377.

The exercise lasted from May 15th 'till 17th and the repetition course finished May 18th in Payerne.
