Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) visible

Something completely different for today's blog - actually another comet is visible in the northern hemisphere and the pictures from the southern hemisphere where fabulous. 

Visible in the evening, but most days with the clouds not visible these days. 

But yesterday it looked good:

Comet (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS), also known as the Great Comet of 2024 and formally designated as C/2023 A3, is a comet from the Oort cloud discovered by the Purple Mountain Observatory in China on 9 January 2023 and independently found by ATLAS South Africa on 22 February 2023. The comet passed perihelion at a distance of 0.39 AU (58 million km; 36 million mi) on 27 September 2024, when it became visible to the naked eye. Tsuchinshan–ATLAS peaked its brightest magnitude on 9 October, shortly after passing the Sun, with a magnitude of −4.9 per reported observations at the Comet Observation Database (COBS)

Last Antonov AN-124 for RUAG Emmen produced ATLAS rocket tops next week

 

Due new production factory in the United States, the Antonov AN-124 takes delivery of the upper rocket part for the last time in Emmen. ARR September 29th, DEP one day later.

The big transporter was seen about 32 times in the last 20 years in Emmen - mostly for ARIANE and ATLAS parts, but like seen on this picture also for humanitarian/technical aid in 2004. ARIANA parts will still be produced in Emmen, but transport of the parts will be via road/ship to Amsterdam. Only if time is limited, those parts will be transported by airplane.

Airbus A310 ZERO-G and Zeppelin NT back in Dübendorf

Tomorrow Monday 11th 'till Thursday 14th, the Swiss SkyLab Foundation leads another campaign with the Airbus A310 ZERO-G and the Zeppelin NT out of Dübendorf airbase.

The research platform parabolic flights has been an integral part of all research in zero gravity for decades. The utilisation concept of the Swiss Parabolic Flights - shared use by universities, companies and private individuals - is unique in the whole of Europe to date and offers a significant competitive advantage for Switzerland: The parabolic flight campaigns provide science and industry with cost-effective access to research and R&D projects in microgravity. Two parabolic flight campaigns with a total of 12 research projects have already been successfully carried out with the A310 ZERO-G from Duebendorf Airport. In June 2018, the 3rd Swiss Parabolic Flight Campaign will once again be launched into zero gravity.
