Air-to-Ground Shooting Training, Axalp (-Ebenfluh) Range 2016

The Axalp (-Ebenfluh) Range is open from October to Mars each year and the first week was splendid with fabulous weather. Due the cancellation of the showprogramm next week there will 'only' helicopters flying to take all those toilets and drinks back down into the valley in week 41. All shooting activity will be held at Fôrel Range on the lake of Neuchâtel near Payerne. The Patrouille Suisse will also fly there:

With more than 6000 pictures made this week it's difficult to choose some few for an blog - but I will try ;)

Due restrictions on public places outside the show-week - only KP (KommandoPosten, the little tower near the targets) is permitted to watch activity (NO Tschingel and also NO Brau !) if the red-white shootingflag is hissed - you have to be at 0800h (or 13h if you start at 12h with the walk) there for not troubling the personell. With a little glimpse of snow on the tower we feeled like Neil Armstrong on the moon July 21st, 1969 :D

On Monday 03rd no jet activity was planned - so we enjoyed a nice hike, panorama, animals and a single helicopter lifting some cargo down to the valley:

Beginning from Thuesday 04th the sky and the range belonged to Tiger and Hornets - low and fast !

 

Axalp 2016 cancelled

After the two fatal accidents with Hornet J-5022 and Cougar T-338 in the last four weeks, the Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports - Guy Parmelin - has decided today for the cancellation of the public event at October 12th/13th 2016 plus the training event a day earlier.

Kein Fliegerschiessen auf der Axalp

Bern, 30.09.2016 - Nach zwei Unfällen in der Schweizer Luftwaffe mit drei Todesopfern innert vier Wochen hat Bundesrat Guy Parmelin heute entschieden, das für den 12. und 13. Oktober 2016 geplante Fliegerschiessen auf der Axalp abzusagen.

Die Departementsführung des VBS hat das Fliegerschiessen Axalp vom 12. und 13. Oktober 2016 abgesagt. Dieser Entscheid ist ihr nicht leicht gefallen – doch aus Rücksicht und Respekt gegenüber den innert einem Monat tödlich verunglückten drei Piloten und einem schwerverletzten Flugbegleiter der Schweizer Armee hat sich die Departementsspitze für die Absage entschieden.Der Kommandant der Luftwaffe hat zusätzlich entschieden, auf die mit der Fliegerdemonstration verbundenen Trainingsschiessen vom 11. bis 13. Oktober 2016 auf der Axalp zu verzichten.

Erst letzten Mittwoch, dem 28. September, ist auf dem Gotthard ein Super-Puma-Helikopter abgestürzt. Die beiden Piloten kamen dabei ums Leben, der Flugbegleiter wurde schwer verletzt. Einen Monat zuvor, am 29. August, verunglückte beim Susten ein Pilot beim Absturz einer F/A-18 tödlich. Zuvor waren am 9. Juni 2016 bei einer Flugshow in Leeuwarden (NL) ein Tiger F-5 und am 14.Oktober 2015 im französischen Jura eine F/A-18 abgestürzt. In beiden Fällen konnten sich die Piloten mit dem Schleudersitz retten.

2016 - a year to forget for the Swiss Air Force :(

After the colission of two Patrouille Suisse F-5E Tiger II due Leeuwarden Airshow (June 09th) and the fatal crash of an Hornet only a few Minutes after takeoff in Meiringen four weeks ago (August 29th), Swiss Air Force lost today an Cougar Helicopter, killing both pilots. All flights with Super Puma/Cougar are suspended at the moment. UPDATE Sep29th: Super Puma's back into the air !

To counter all those bad news about our Air Force I've got you a picture showing an sucessfull Live-ID of an German Air Force Challenger aircraft by two Hornets today at 15:20h LT .
A big Thank You to all those working hard to secure our land - knowing too well that everyone has thinkings to the families of those two comrades.

Delivery of AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM Missiles to Switzerland

The Government of Switzerland commanded 150 AIM-120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), 6 AIM-120C-7 Telemetry Missiles, 24 AIM-120C-7 Captive Air Training Missiles, 1 spare Missile Guidance Section, missile containers, weapon system support equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical documents, repair and return, depot maintenance, training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical support services, and other related elements of logistics and program support. Command dates back to 2011 (Rüstungsprogramm 2011) and estimated cost is $358 million. The equipment was delivered Sep 21st, 2016 with C-17A Globemaster III 07-7175 as RCH386. Leaving Payerne Base 24h later to Spangdahlem in Germany.

Thunder in the Simmental Valley - Hunterfest St. Stephan 2016

Every year there is a very nice little airshow on the former Swiss Air Force Base of St. Stephan in the Simmental valley. The home of famous PAPYRUS-Hunter has some magnificient background with nice mountains like the Wildstrubel (3244m above sealevel) and Albristhore (2762m).
Thius years special guest was a Skyworks Do 328-100 airliner, but my focus stayed on all those nice Hunter and Vampire jet aircrafts. Have fun with the pictures and see you on next edition, August 26th, 2017 !

STABANTE 2015 - the movie !

After more then one year I've found the time to finish my film of this exercise - my posting to Stabante 2015 !

For our article in swiss publication COCKPIT I've taken some Videos of all those interesting speaks. The quality was too good to delete them, so I've made an video out of it. It's some kind of a documentation, with german and french language knowledge you will understand all. Footage includes the new QRA-system introduced in our Air Force too, with demonstration of the 15mins and 3mins reaction time. As inlets you can see precisions about Armée de l'Air Air Policy and ELITE low level exercises of the millenium years in Southern Germany.  Some flight scenes in the Jura Mountains, Lake of Neuchâtel, Payerne Base and Fribourg City with the very new LaPoya Bridge are also used for good.


Für meine Artikel nutze ich oftmals Videos von Interviews und Vorträgen, beim abschreiben davon verhindert man viele Fehlerquellen. Auch für die Übung Stabante nutzte ich diese Technik, aber das Material war in zu guter Qualität um es nicht zu verwenden. Die Aussagen wurden für den Film mit Beispielen aus meinem reichhaltigen Fundus ergänzt, verwendet wurden vor allem Aufnahmen von einer Luftpolizeidemonstration der französischen Armée de l'Air und der internationalen Luftwaffenübung ELITE auf dem Waffenplatz Heuberg in Deutschland. Eines der Highlights ist sicherlich die Demo des Luftpolizeidienst 24. Vorgeführt wurden die QRA3, in welcher der Pilot schon in der Maschine sitzt und innert 3 Minuten abheben muss plus die QRA15 mit der Mannschaft bereit im Warteraum neben der Maschine.
Ich entschuldige mich dass es so lange gedauert hat - aber für Videos brauche ich viel Ruhe und Zeit.
